The Full Story

We became friends through a program, the Skype Pal Project, in collaboration with Katarina's Spanish department and Joan's English department at our universities. The program was designed to have students at BMC practice their spanish with students from UIC Barcelona. And students in Barcelona have the opportunity to practice their english. We quickly became great friends and continued to Skype one another even after the program ended. Now, we are spending two weeks together in the United States, traveling around the East Coast.

About Katarina: I am currently a rising junior at Bryn Mawr College, a historically women's college in Bryn Mawr, PA. My major is Sociology with a minor in Spanish, and a concentration in Education. On campus, I am an Admissions Intern and Tour Guide, and a mentor for our first-year wellness program. I am so glad that Joan spent two weeks with my family and I in the United States. We had a great time together! I am also glad to know that I am always welcome in Joan's family.

About Joan: I am currently a student of a double bilingual degree in Pre-Primary and Primary Education at the International University of Catalonia (UIC Barcelona). I am committed to the challenges that education poses in the 21st century, including the inclusive school; one of the greatest challenges faced by educators and schools. In this context, teacher training is a key element in offering learning opportunities to all our students. My teaching experience spans early years, primary education and secondary as a private tutor for over 3 years. I am so grateful to have spent two weeks in the United States. It is an incredible opportunity - my dream has come true!
