Day Ten: The Fourth of July & Shopping

Happy Fourth of July/Independence Day! The fourth of July is a special and popular day for Americans. The holiday celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776. This document was sent to the Kingdom of Great Britain to declare that the thirteen colonies would be free from British rule. Typically on the Fourth of July, Americans will barbecue/grill different foods such as meat and vegetables and light sparklers. Many will also wear clothing with the colors of the American flag (red, white, and blue).

Today, we decided to relax. Katarina's family and I have been constantly on our feet, we wanted to take a break. So Katarina, Nikos, Connie (Katarina's mom), and I drove to go shopping at a mall. Even though many stores and businesses are closed on July 4th, some places are still open. While we walked around the mall, Katarina bought many things today! On different holidays in the United States, such as the Fourth of July or Memorial Day, many retailers have sales. She bought items at Sephora, American Eagle Outfitters, and Ulta. I am still in shock over how much Americans love to shop!

After spending three hours at the mall, the four of us decided to head back home - we were starting to get hungry! Once we arrived to her house, her father had already started to prepare dinner. Michael grilled steak and sautéed cauliflower and kale. Katarina made cheese and garlic biscuits. Everything was so delicious!

Once her family and I finished dinner, Katarina and I worked on the blog. It has been so much fun documenting everything that we have done on the trip so far. Tomorrow, July 5th, we will be visiting New York City and then drive to Washington DC. Once we finished updating our blog, Katarina, Michael, Nikos, and I finished watching a movie called "Fools Rush In", I love the American movies that I have seen with her family so far!
